Tengal & the Gangan Ensemble

Background
The Gangan Ensemble is a free improvising ensemble composed of any number of musicians/VJs/sound artists performing under the direction of its creator, Tengal. For further information on this work, please visit the Gangan Series blogsite.

The other performers and I were approached by Tengal during the Cellsbutton #02 festival to play the improvised Gangan piece at the CellSonic event. Each peformer brought their own techniques to the fold; I looped & layered various samples, affecting each one with only minor audio fx & simple EQ. This signal, along with those of each member of the ensemble were then further manipulated through the mixing desk by Tengal. Each performer played for 3 minutes, with the 2nd performer starting 1 minute after the previous performer. This was repeated in various combinations to create an evolving and organic collage of music and visuals.

The recording above was recorded live at CellSonic, PPPPK, Bandung, Java, Indonesia on August 17th 2008.
